There are different film festivals whether local, national, and international. However, some of the top international film festivals are as follows:

 

Cannes Film Festival or Festival de Cannes (http://www.festival-cannes.com/) has become the most prestigious film festival in the world. The festival is based out of Cannes in France. What started as a simple social event with a lot of awards for different films became a huge event with a lot of media coverage showcasing the range of talent and expression in different upcoming films. It has grown to become one of the leading film festivals in the world with over a 65 year history. In the late 1990′s, the show has grown to include short and medium range films from different film schools.

Top tier actors, filmmakers, and producers all share a role in the event as it’s been taking place since 1978 in Park City, Utah. For upcoming actors and filmmakers, this place offers a great stepping stone to make it big in the industry. The film festival has even branched off to becoming a channel on digital cable or television which gives a bigger audience to more independent films.

 

Another important festival is the Toronto Film Festival (http://www.tiff.net/default.aspx). This is the type of festival that gives in outlet to potentially Oscar worthy films. In fact, big Oscar buzz types of films such as “Ray” and “Slumdog Millionaire” both appeared in the Toronto Film Festival. It’s a great place for both veteran filmmakers and upcoming filmmakers. It has a rich history starting in 1976.
